Under the direction of the Supervising and/or Chief Boiler Inspector, the incumbent will:
• Supervise Boiler Inspectors in an assigned area in conducting regulatory inspection of high/low pressure boilers.
• Directs staff training.
• Enforces Industrial Code Rules and national standards regulating the construction, installation, inspection and maintenance of steam and hot water, high/low pressure boilers of commercial and residential types.
• Ensures that vessels are constructed and registered in accordance with New York State Labor Law requirements.
• Perform the more complex inspections and investigations.
• Review inspectors' violations
• Maintains records on the region's test equipment and assigns equipment to field staff
• Review inspector’s daily work summaries
• Investigate boiler accidents
• Prepares any necessary reports
• Monitors insurance company inspectors to determine the quality of inspection
Minimum Qualifications:
As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a Senior Boiler Inspector position; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Senior Boiler Inspector eligible list for this location, if one exists.
52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
DOL Employees only
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Boiler Inspector. If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor Boiler Inspectors are interested, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified Boiler Inspectors without further examination.
Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.
Provisional Qualifications:
DOL Employees only
Candidates must have one year of permanent, contingent permanent, or 55b/c service as a Boiler Inspector.
The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
Additional Comments:
This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment.
Some positions may require a medical examination prior to appointment, and you will be responsible for the payment for the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to the positions that require this examination may also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
