Main Duties
Cleaning and Building Care
- Maintain all areas of the residence halls, including:
- Lobbies, hallways, lounges, offices, restrooms, kitchens, study rooms, and common areas
- Entrances, stairwells, elevators, exterior walkways, and nearby outdoor areas
- Upholstery cleaning, carpet cleaning, walls, ceilings, and windows
- Cleaning chandeliers, vents, blinds, and furniture
Supervising Student Workers
- Schedule, train, and supervise student custodial workers
- Work alongside students to demonstrate proper cleaning and maintenance techniques
- Provide feedback to improve performance and safety awareness
- Assist Residential Life staff in evaluating student workers
- Ensure tasks are completed according to daily, weekly, quarterly, and summer schedules
- Perform minor repairs, including:
- Replacing light bulbs, shower heads, sink parts, mirrors, bulletin boards, and hardware
- Fixing minor wall marks, scratches, and furniture issues
- Oiling doors, hinges, and moving parts
Supplies and Inventory
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial closets and supply rooms
- Monitor cleaning supplies and equipment, restocking as needed
- Inspect chemicals, check Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and ensure safe usage
- Deliver supplies to offices, common areas, or special event locations
- Coordinate with Residential Life staff regarding building needs, schedules, and events
- Submit and follow up on work orders
- Assist with emergency and safety planning in residence halls
- Ensure staff and student workers follow all safety procedures and chemical guidelines
- Train staff on proper use of safety equipment
- Assist with setup and cleanup for events in lounges, lobbies, and ManCave areas
- Maintain golf cart, social closet, and emergency supply closet
- Inspect and restock emergency supplies as needed
- Ensure all common areas are prepared for student activities, seasonal changes, and special events
- Complete other tasks assigned by supervisor or Residential Life staff
- Provide leadership, oversight, and guidance to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 3–5 years of custodial or building maintenance experience, or equivalent
- Experience supervising or training staff is helpful but not required
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic English reading and speaking for safety, labeling, emails, and communication
- Ability to work respectfully with students and staff
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills preferred
- Spanish/English bilingual skills a plus
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and use hands for cleaning and minor repairs
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and conditions
- Work takes place in residence halls, offices, and outdoor areas
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and equipment is expected
