Assisting Alvord Unified School District students with improving their math skills. Employment as an America Counts tutor has the potential to be extremely fun and rewarding, however, the charge of helping a student to improve in math cannot be taken lightly.
Responsibilities
Please remember that while working in the community, you are representing La Sierra University. The school site you work for is relying upon you. You are serving the community's children, and your work is very important. Do not consider becoming an America Reads or America Counts tutor unless you are willing to commit yourself to the program, its goals and the children you are serving. In your role as a tutor, you will gain valuable experience, perform a valuable service to the community and help a child learn to read, or help a child learn math skills. You are still subject to the same guidelines and rules you would be if you were working on campus.

- Provide tutoring services in Math
- Assist students with assigned homework in Math
- Develop student Math group activities

Requirements
- Federal Work-study required
- Reliable transportation to schools
- Tutoring Times Available (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 2:30 - 6pm & Tuesday 1:30-6pm)
- Must be a registered student at La Sierra University
- A solid understanding of math topics covered up to the middle school level, such as integers, fractions, simple algebra, probability, etc.
- Ability to work separately with student and/or within a larger context of student/tutor groups
- Creative and enthusiastic when covering lesson plans
- Attention to detail regarding paperwork and prompt arrival/departure to/from school site
- Excellent people skills, enthusiasm for helping adolescents, respectful attitude
- Must be comfortable using technology such as Google Meets
Salary : $25
