Position Summary
The Tutor and Retention Coordinator for the BSN Prelicensure Program is responsible for working with faculty and undergraduate prelicensure students to increase the retention of students from enrollment to graduation and to improve and maintain first time NCLEX-RN® exam pass rates at or above the national average.
Essential Duties
- Assess learning needs of undergraduate prelicensure students.
- Identify key areas of focus for ongoing programs of remediation.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify at risk students early in the term to assist in improving their academic performance.
- Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
- Develop individualized learning contracts for students.
- Develop and implement a schedule of regular individual and group educational sessions.
- Maintains all records required to document student’s attendance and academic progress.
- Determine student’s needs for assistance in other areas such as counseling and refer as necessary.
- Teach as needed in line with position requirements
- Arrange or assist in arranging various special academic programs which are in addition to normal tutorial sessions.
- Research methods to increase student performance on standardized exams.
- Select appropriate learning resources for use in the tutoring center.
- Collect data on program outcomes in consultation with the Chair of the Undergraduate Nursing Program and the Acting Dean for the SONHS.
- Implement a plan for monitoring outcomes of program.
- Maintain database of graduate job placement.

Required Qualifications
- MSN degree with knowledge of health care systems.
- 2 years experience in tutoring and remediation
- Unencumbered nursing license.
- Excellent knowledge of computer systems needed to track student performance.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work directly with a variety of people.
- Ability to problem-solve, work autonomously and as a team player, and to be a self-starter.
- Handle detailed work in a multi-task environment.
- Enthusiastic, outgoing and customer service oriented.
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
