Job Description:
La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12. La Salle Academy has as its mission the education of young men and women of diverse backgrounds, with a special concern for the working class and the poor, in the tradition of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s ideals of faith, service, and community.
La Salle Academy is seeking a dynamic and well-rounded math educator to join our math and science departments. Candidates who have experience or the academic preparation and desire to teach Precalculus, Calculus, and Physics are preferred, with opportunities to instruct elective courses such as statistics, and computer science, based on expertise and student interest. We are looking for passionate educators who can engage students in inquiry-based learning, foster mathematical curiosity and build confidence, differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students at a variety of academic levels, from College Prep through Advanced Placement courses, and contribute to a collaborative academic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Teach math to high school students following state and national standards, including, but not limited to Precalculus, Calculus, and Physics.
- Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities, real-world applications, and building problem solving skills and critical thinking.
- Utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning.
- Assess and support student progress through differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and contribute to the math and science departments.
- Participate in school activities, professional development, and extracurricular programs as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Math, Education, or a related field.
- Strong background in mathematics
- Teaching experience in a high school math classroom, particularly teaching Precalculus or higher, preferred.
- Experience in hands-on, inquiry-based math instruction preferred.
- Effective classroom management and communication skills.
- Passion for fostering student engagement, collaborative problem solving, and confidence in mathematical ability
