Overview

For more than 20 years, we've designed, fabricated, and installed custom mechanical systems, structural steel, theatrical rigging, show action equipment, and specialty projects for some of the world's most recognizable theme parks, theaters, museums, and entertainment venues.

We're looking for a Shop Manager who wants to lead a talented team of welders, fabricators, machinists, and technicians while making a direct impact on projects that are seen and experienced by millions of people. This isn't a high-volume production environment—it's a place where problem solving, innovation, quality, and craftsmanship matter every day.

Duties

Shop Operations

  • Plan, schedule, and manage daily shop production activities.
  • Coordinate fabrication priorities based on project schedules and customer commitments.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and shop space.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust staffing and priorities as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication facility.

Leadership

  • Supervise welders, fabricators, machinists, and shop support personnel.
  • Assign work based on employee skills and project requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees through training and performance feedback.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend promotions or disciplinary actions.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Quality Control

  • Ensure all fabrication meets engineering drawings, customer specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, fit-up, and mechanical assembly.
  • Coordinate inspections and quality documentation as required.
  • Identify and resolve fabrication issues before products leave the shop.

Safety

  • Promote and enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and shop inspections.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE, lifting equipment, welding safety practices, and fabrication procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

Coordination

  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Designers, Purchasing, and Installation crews.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings.
  • Review fabrication drawings for constructability and sequencing.
  • Identify schedule risks and communicate project status proactively.

Materials & Equipment

  • Coordinate material deliveries and inventory.
  • Ensure fabrication equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Manage shop tooling, welding machines, forklifts, and specialty equipment.

Production Management

  • Monitor labor hours and production efficiency.
  • Track project progress against budgets.
  • Assist with estimating fabrication hours for future projects.
  • Implement process improvements where appropriate.
  • Coordinate fabrication priorities based on project schedules and customer commitments.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and shop space.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust staffing and priorities as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication facility.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience in manufacturing or custom metal fabrication.
  • 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Structural steel fabrication
  • Welding processes (MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW)
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Rigging systems
  • Blueprint and engineering drawing interpretation
  • Experience managing custom, one-off fabrication projects.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
