DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an Institutional Giving Specialist to support LA Opera’s fundraising efforts through a range of administrative and operational responsibilities related to foundation, corporate, government, and other institutional fundraising initiatives.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving and Government Relations, this is a full-time staff position based at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles. LA Opera currently offers hybrid work flexibility, with the option to work remotely up to two days per week in many weeks. The role also requires occasional evening and weekend hours in connection with performances and events, in addition to regular office hours Monday through Friday.

The anticipated starting salary range is $58,500–$65,000. This non-exempt position is eligible for LA Opera’s comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and long-term disability coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; cell phone stipend; Employee Assistance Program; subsidized parking or public transit reimbursement; and complimentary and discounted performance tickets.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Writing grant reports and other stewardship materials
  • Maintaining grant tracking systems and calendars
  • Preparing grant support materials and application documentation
  • Assisting with donor and sponsorship presentations
  • Tracking and drafting acknowledgement letters
  • Assisting with donation data entry and record management
  • Providing administrative support to the Development team
  • Supporting Development events, including site visits, off-site events, check-in tables, and the Patron Lounge
  • Performing other duties and special projects requiring a comparable level of skill, judgment, and responsibility

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to align with organizational voice and project needs; prior grant writing or grant reporting experience preferred
  • Previous experience working in a nonprofit environment preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new workplace applications
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Collaborative, team-oriented work style with strong interpersonal skills
