The job of Health Technician was established for the purpose/s of monitoring the health and welfare of students at school sites under the direction of the credentialed School Nurse; documenting and maintaining student health information required by Federal/State/Local agencies, and providing appropriate care and/or referrals for students with health conditions and/or injuries.
As a substitute employee, hours are not guaranteed; position is not benefits eligible.
ALL OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT ARE CONTINGENT ON PRE-EMPLOYMENT CLEARANCES FOR: Department of Justice (CA) Fingerprints; Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprints; Tuberculosis (TB) and Physical.

Examples of Duties
Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment under the direction of the School Nurse to students with health conditions and/or injuries; provides specialized medical treatments and/or testing at school site.
Communicates with parents, students, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements.
Coordinates student absence activities at assigned school location for the purpose of documenting student absences in a timely manner and providing an accurate audit trail.
Distributes and maintains written materials of confidential and non-confidential nature (e.g., shot/ immunization records, county health report, accident reports, confidential memos, letters to parents) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Distributes information, under the direction of the School Nurse, on medical treatments (e.g., lice, personal hygiene, infectious disease) for the purpose of instructing teachers, students and/or parents on a variety of health related subjects.
Maintains a wide variety of manual and electronic documents, records and files (e.g., medical emergency cards, medication logs, mandated screening, students' health records) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Maintains and distributes attendance related documents and reports (e.g., letters, referrals, independent study contracts, logs, reports) for the purpose of conveying information, documenting activities, and/or providing an audit trail.
Maintains student cumulative folders and related information for the purpose of ensuring that accurate data is maintained and easily accessible for approved use.
Monitors students referred for illness for the purpose of ensuring their safety and welfare.
Prepares and maintains written materials of confidential and non-confidential nature (e.g., shot/ immunization records, county health report, accident reports, confidential memos, letters to parents) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, injury related accidents) for the purpose of maintaining student personal safety, a positive learning environment and adherance to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
Requisitions and maintains health office supplies to ensure the availability of supplies at school site.
Responds to emergencies for the purpose of determining and implementing appropriate actions required to maintain the health and safety of students.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent and one year of clerical experience involving public contact and record keeping responsibilities; and basic clerical and computational skills.
Knowledge Of

Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
Safety practices and procedures.
First Aid and CPR procedures and techniques.
Business telephone etiquette.
Concepts of grammar and punctuation.
