Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
Job Description:
The Custodian will perform routine custodial activities, including cleaning classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums, lounges, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other facilities as assigned. This includes dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork, emptying waste receptacles, spot mopping spills, removing gum, debris, and graffiti as needed, and replenishing classroom supplies.
The Custodian will also be responsible for communicating with personnel, administrators, and outside contacts as needed to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. Additionally, they will lock and unlock doors, gates, and windows as appropriate, turn lights on and off as needed, and maintain security of assigned areas according to established guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have experience in custodial work, preferably in an educational setting. They must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects, bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch, and stand for extended periods. The ability to operate a variety of custodial equipment, such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, carpet cleaning machines, and other equipment as assigned, is also required.
Requirements:
- Any combination equivalent to six months of performing custodial functions.
- Successful passage of the District's job-related proficiency test.
- Some incumbents may be required to possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
Working Conditions:
The Custodian will work in an indoor and outdoor environment, subject to seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions, fumes, dust, and odors. They must be able to climb ladders and work from heights to replace light bulbs and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally. The physical demands of the job include lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects, bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching, and standing for extended periods.
