Education/Training/ExperienceCompletion of high school or General Education Diploma (GED). Possession of an Associate Degree or minimum of two years of college (48 units), or other evidence of equivalent training/education required under NCLB education for Title I school assignments; or applicant must be able to pass an assessment test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing and mathematics or reading, writing and mathematics readiness. Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, first aid/CPR, or related fields is desirable.One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting is required. EXAMINATION PROCEDURESThis is a promotional and open competitive recruitment. The examination may consist of a training and experience (supplemental responses) evaluation, written test or performance test and a structured oral interview.To qualify to be placed on an eligibility list, a candidate must obtain a passing score on each test part of the examination process. Final scores will be obtained by combining the relative weights of scores on each test part. If Veteran's credit is claimed, proof of status (DD214) must be submitted to the Classified Personnel Office at the same time the application form is submitted or prior to testing. The life of the eligibility list will be twelve (12) months. The resulting eligibility list will be used to fill current and future permanent and substitute vacancies.Applicants who may need reasonable accommodation for interviewing or testing must notify the Personnel Department at (562) 690-2321, three (3) business days prior to the testing date.Date of ExaminationCandidates who are among the most qualified shall be notified via email or telephone of the time, date and place of the examination(s).REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:• A fully completed EdJoin Employment Application• A letter of introduction• Pass District Proficiency Exam or submit transcripts/diploma showing 48 or more completed units at a institution of higher education by the application deadline.
