The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions that support La Cap’s financial operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This position prepares journal entries, reconciles general ledger accounts, assists with financial reporting and regulatory filings, and supports month-end and year-end close activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following, but other duties may be assigned.

1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the credit union's products and services by successfully completing the annual product knowledge assessment.

2. Reconcile HELP Loans and provides the Department of Natural Resources with a quarterly accounting and remittance

3. Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts on at least a monthly basis, researching and resolving discrepancies promptly.

4. Prepare and enter daily and monthly general ledger transactions including investment activity and schedules, employee payroll, pension, and 401(k) entries, among others

5. Maintain subsidiary schedules for prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities, prepare monthly amortization and accrual entries, and ensure accounts are accurately balanced.

6. Prepare the credit union’s IRS forms and Unclaimed Property items

7. Prepare the quarterly NCUA Call Report and all supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

8. Assist in preparation of month-end reports including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Ratio Analysis, Branch Reports, Statistical Report, and Investment Reports

9. Reconcile cash accounts on a daily basis and investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.

10. Assist VP of Accounting with projects as needed

11. Participate in special projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives as assigned by Credit Union Management.

12. Provide guidance and support to employees by assisting with accounting-related questions, troubleshooting issues, and sharing knowledge to promote professional development.

13. Deliver exceptional internal and external member service, which may include answering phones, assisting members, and supporting other operational functions as needed.

14. Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, IRS reporting requirements, and other applicable accounting standards.

15. Understand compliance issues and attend trainings as they relate to credit union services (including but not limited to: Bank Secrecy Act, Reg P and Patriot Act)

Education and/or Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

· Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience required, preferably within a financial institution or credit union, or an equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and relevant experience.

· Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or active pursuit of CPA licensure is preferred but not required.
