HVAC Service Technician Apprentice
JOB SUMMARY: The Technician Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to develop the next generation of licensed technicians through hands-on training, structured rotations, and real-world field experience. Apprentices will participate in Gault’s Apprentice Wheel, rotating through key departments including HVAC Service, HVAC Install, Generator, Propane, Electrical, and Warehouse. Within each rotation, apprentices will work alongside multiple experienced technicians, gaining exposure to different skillsets, job types, and customer interactions. This role focuses on building technical ability, safety awareness, and strong work habits while preparing apprentices for long-term success in the trades and progression toward licensure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in structured rotations through:
- HVAC Service
- HVAC Install
- Generator
- Propane
- Electrical
- Warehouse
- Work alongside a variety of technicians to gain diverse, hands-on experience
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and light commercial systems
- Support technicians on job sites with tools, materials, and job setup/cleanup
- Perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance under supervision
- Follow all safety protocols and company procedures at all times
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment (job sites, trucks, warehouse)
- Attend scheduled trainings, apprentice check-ins, and development sessions
- Track progress and actively participate in skill development throughout rotations
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and team members

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of or active enrollment in a technical/trade school program is required
- Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Willingness to pursue trade licensure and continue related instruction as required
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 100% field work. Working inside climbing up and down stairs to basements, attics, crawl spaces and other tight and confined spaces. Working outside in all weather conditions. Climbing and working from ladders. Driving a service vehicle to calls, getting in and out of a truck and getting tool and materials in and out of truck. Working with and exposed to hazardous materials daily.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, twisting, lifting and pulling of parts and equipment. Must have the ability to lift and/or move items up to 85 pounds. The position requires employee to regularly talk and hear.
