Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Mail Shop Operator (Level 1 – Inserter / Folder Operator) to join our production team. In this role, successfully selected individuals operate inserter, burster, and folding equipment to ensure mail materials are processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
We are currently hiring for:
- 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
While prior experience is preferred, entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Paid training is provided.
Responsibilities
Inserter / Mail Equipment Operation
- Operate inserter, burster, and/or folding equipment to meet production goals
- Set up and adjust machines to maintain efficiency and quality (based on experience level)
- Ensure materials are processed in the correct sequence with high accuracy
- Detect and resolve issues such as double feeds, missed inserts, and misfeeds
- Read and interpret work orders to complete jobs correctly
- Maintain required production speeds and output targets
Equipment You Will Operate
- Inserter machines (Bell and Howell/Flow-Masters)
- MBO Folder
- Baum Folder
- Bowe/Spedo Burster and Cutter
Production & Quality Control
- Inspect finished materials for accuracy and consistency
- Accurately complete production logs and documentation
- Ensure all jobs meet quality and mailing standards
Machine Maintenance & Support
- Perform basic troubleshooting and routine preventive maintenance
- Identify and report mechanical issues promptly
- Maintain machine readiness (clearing jams, loading materials, etc.)
Shared Responsibilities
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines
- Assist in training new or less experienced operators (as skills progress)
- Work overtime as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to operate machinery independently or learn under supervision
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Basic English communication skills
- Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking
- Mechanical aptitude for minor adjustments
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented with a professional attitude
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a mail shop, inserter, or production environment
- Knowledge of USPS Mail requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- 0–6 months of related experience or equivalent training
- Entry-level candidates welcome – paid training provided
