Our adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that live in our homes are called “Core Members,” as they are the heart of our community. Our Disability Support Companions are called “Assistants,” as they assist core members to live their best lives. We seek to build relationships rooted in mutual respect, trust, and joy. Available Schedules:
Part-time and Relief schedules are available!
Part-time: 20-30 hours/week
Evenings Availability:
- PT: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – 3:00 PM–10:00 PM
- PT: Thursday, Friday, Saturday – 3:00 PM–10:00 PM
Overnight Availability:
- PT Overnight: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – 11:00 PM–9:00 AM
- PT Overnight: Thursday, Friday, Saturday – 11:00 PM–9:00 AM
Relief:
- Hours vary
- Schedule varies depending on availability
Key Responsibilities:
- Build mutual relationships with Core Members rooted in dignity and fun.
- Provide personal care and support with daily living activities (e.g., bathing, dressing, meals, mobility, medications).
- Create opportunities for joy, play, and meaningful engagement—whether through outings, music, games, art, or everyday laughter.
- Support Core Members in pursuing their interests and goals.
- Contribute to the life of the home through shared meals, household responsibilities, and community gatherings.
- Collaborate with other Assistants and community leaders to ensure holistic, person-centered care.
- Uphold the values and mission of L’Arche in all aspects of work and relationships.
Qualifications:
- A desire to build relationships and work in an intentional community.
- Respect for the gifts and individual needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Willingness to assist with personal and physical care in a respectful manner.
- Emotional maturity, flexibility, and the ability to navigate the joys and challenges of communal life.
- No previous experience in disability services required—just openness to learn, grow, and serve as a companion with others.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must pass a CORI check
