What are the responsibilities and job description for the Costing Engineer position at KYOCERA AVX Components Corporation?
As a Costing Engineer, you will take on a key role at the interface between engineering, production, purchasing and sales. You will evaluate customer RFQs in the automotive environment from both a technical and commercial perspective, coordinate manufacturability assessments, analyze cost drivers and provide reliable costing foundations for well-informed quotation decisions.
Your Responsibilities:
- Prepare, maintain and further develop cost calculations for new projects, product changes and series products.
- Evaluate customer RFQs from a technical and commercial perspective, including the assessment of manufacturability, manufacturing concepts, investments and key cost drivers.
- Independently organize and coordinate manufacturability assessments and customer requirements, involving internal and external interfaces.
- Clarify technical and costing-related topics directly with specialist departments, international locations and customers.
- Analyze components, materials, manufacturing processes, cycle times, tools and investment requirements to derive robust costing assumptions.
- Develop and evaluate manufacturing concepts, taking into account cost, efficiency, technical feasibility and capacity requirements.
- Conduct should-cost analyses, benchmarks and cost comparisons to identify competitive target costs.
- Identify and evaluate cost optimization potential across the product, process and supply chain, including design-to-cost approaches.
- Conduct post-costing analyses, including target/actual comparisons, variance analyses and the derivation of improvement measures for future cost calculations.
- Support Sales in quotation and price negotiations by transparently presenting and explaining cost structures.
- Conduct and evaluate make-or-buy analyses as well as profitability and ROI assessments.
- Manage and track RFQs, including the monitoring of relevant KPIs related to quotation status, lead times, deadlines, risks and priorities.
- Document costing assumptions, opportunities, risks and cost drivers as a basis for reliable quotation decisions and internal approvals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successfully completed Bachelors degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, plastics engineering, production engineering or a comparable qualification.
- Several years of professional experience in costing, cost engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or technical cost calculation in the automotive environment.
- Very good technical understanding of manufacturing processes, manufacturability, tooling, material usage and investments, as well as experience in interpreting and evaluating technical drawings, 3D assemblies and CAD data.
- Strong analytical and entrepreneurial mindset, combined with the ability to evaluate complex technical and commercial topics within the overall business context, classify them strategically and represent them confidently in cross-functional alignments.
- Experience in evaluating complex technical contexts and cost structures, as well as in cross-functional collaboration.
- Confident use of Excel and, ideally, experience with SAP and costing-related systems. Knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter Product Cost Management (TCPCM) is an advantage.
- Structured, analytical and independent working style with a strong focus on results.
- Strong communication skills, confident presence and the ability to communicate technical and commercial content effectively to different target groups.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
