What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Inspector position at Kwame Building Group, Inc.?
Kwame is looking for qualified Project Inspectors with a strong background in construction to join our dynamic team. The inspector will perform inspection duties focused on infrastructure. Specifically, they will inspect work completed by subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications regarding procedures and materials.
Additionally, the inspector will prepare progress reports, calculate dimensions and component specifications, report maintenance issues, and discuss project requirements with superiors. They will also ensure that employees adhere to corporate policies while performing their tasks.
Position Announcement: Construction Inspector
· Observe and document construction and maintenance activities at project sites utilizing daily reports, inspection reports, and photography.
· Inspect work performed by in-house crews as well as 3rd party contractors for conformance to contract documents and Agency standards.
· Measure, track, and document constructed quantities on a daily basis for payment, including additional work orders and directives.
· Understand and enforce terms and conditions of construction contract documents with 3rd party contractors and consultants.
· Manage projects from preliminary planning through completion.
· Understand and analyze survey reports, maps, shop drawings, aerial photography, and other topographical or geological data.
· Direct or participate in surveying to locate property corners, lay out installations, and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.
· Prepare or present public reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, or property and right-of-way descriptions.
· Review of engineered construction plans for projects involving site grading, drainage plans, utility plans, roadway and parking lot designs, bridges and structures, bus stops, stormwater management, and erosion control plans.
· Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and labor to determine project costs.
· Awareness of current Accessibility guidelines and determination of compliance.
· Addresses issues with the public, such as infringement upon right-of-way.
· Attend and prepare meeting minutes for both public and internal meetings.
· Research/obtain property documents at the County Recorder’s office.
· Maintain positive relationships with the general public, government agencies, contractors and the business community.
· Attends work regularly ready to perform duties.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Two years of experience in the design and/or construction of highways, local streets, site development, and storm sewer systems. Transit-related experience is a plus.
- Possess the ability to research, prepare, and analyze complex data.
- General understanding of construction documents.
- Ability to maintain, in the strictest confidence, information concerning confidential matters.
- Read and understand information and ideas presented in writing, such as legal descriptions and survey plans.
- Communicate information in a professional and understandable manner.
- Ability to work independently and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Software applications and .pdf editing software. Experience using engineering software is a plus.
- General knowledge of the public procurement process.
- Knowledgeable in soil and material testing.
- Construction inspection experience preferred.
- Must be able to meet strict deadlines.
- Clean and neat appearance with a professional attitude.
- OSHA compliance.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Normal working conditions for this position include both an office environment and working outside in typical weather elements.
Drive licensed company vehicles to various destinations in Madison County.
The physical requirements of the position include sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and/or other office equipment.
Must be able to demonstrate physical mobility and agility to work on rough and uneven terrains and grounds affected by water and to bend, stoop, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds.
