Position Summary
Safety & Security Representatives play a critical role in supporting direct care staff and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for youth and adults receiving psychiatric care.
This position is far more than traditional security work. Team members actively engage patients through trauma-informed and person-centered approaches while helping maintain structure, safety, and emotional stability across the unit. You will help de-escalate difficult situations, model positive behavior, support treatment goals, and provide compassionate supervision to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges.
At times, Safety & Security Representatives may step into a Lead Capacity role when unit leadership is unavailable based on staffing and operational needs.

Essential Responsibilities
Supervise unit activities and patient movement
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment
Support youth and adults through engagement and positive interaction
Assist with patient supervision and daily activities
Follow individualized treatment plans developed by interdisciplinary teams
Utilize effective de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
Initiate emergency response procedures when necessary
Complete required documentation accurately and on time
Record patient behaviors, interactions, and relevant observations
Transport patients to appointments and visits as needed
Assist with meals, laundry, and unit support responsibilities when directed
Attend required meetings, trainings, and annual in-service education
Utilize KVC systems to maintain training, scheduling, and employee information
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Licensure
Valid driver’s license
Valid/current auto insurance
Experience
At least one year of related experience and/or training
Intermediate computer proficiency including:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Outlook Email
Typing/keyboarding skills
Preferred Experience

Physical Requirements
This role requires the ability to actively support a dynamic hospital environment. Responsibilities may include:
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching
Frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds
Occasionally lifting or moving up to 75 pounds
Maintaining awareness and responsiveness in active treatment settings
