Job Summary
The Tool Room Technician in our diecast environment is a specialized technician responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting high-pressure die casting, molds, and related trimming tools. They operate in a machine shop environment, using manual and CNC equipment to ensure production tools are in good working condition, thereby minimizing downtime.

Job Summary
The Tool Room Technician in our diecast environment is a specialized technician responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting high-pressure die casting, molds, and related trimming tools. They operate in a machine shop environment, using manual and CNC equipment to ensure production tools are in good working condition, thereby minimizing downtime.
Essential Functions
- Disassemble, clean, polish, and reassemble complex die casting molds
- Operate conventional tool room machinery such as lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders to fabricate or repair die components.
- Analyze tool failures, troubleshoot die issues and the production press (e.g., stuck castings, poor surface finish), and repair dies.
- Perform routine maintenance on die cast tooling, including cleaning, greasing, and checking for wear or cracks in cores and ejector pins
- Perform gate changes, drill water lines, and make minor repairs or modifications to dies to improve performance
- Inspect finished dies for conformance to specification, ensuring precision within tight tolerances

Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- 2-5 years of experience in tool and die repair, preferably within a die casting or plastics molding environment
- Proficiency in manual machining (lathe, mill, grinder) is often preferred
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in a tool room, machine shop, or similar manufacturing environment
- Technical school training or apprenticeship in machining
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, engineering drawings, and using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
