About the Role
Kumon of Waxhaw – New Town is seeking a part‑time Early Learner Assistant / Center Assistant to support students ages 3–15 in Math and Reading. This role is ideal for high school/college students, retired teachers, and preschool teachers who enjoy working with young children in a structured learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Work with Early Learners in a calm, supportive small‑group setting
- Grade completed Math and Reading worksheets accurately
- Assist students with center routines and help them stay on task (not tutoring)
- Prepare student files, pull worksheets, and organize materials
- Enter worksheet scores and notes into the system
- Support the Instructor by observing students and sharing relevant updates
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and positive classroom environment
Qualifications
- Strong reading, writing, and basic math skills
- Middle school math knowledge is a plus
- Enjoy working with young children and helping them learn
- Patient, positive, and able to multitask in a busy environment
- Reliable, professional, and willing to follow the Kumon Method
- Retired teachers and preschool teachers are highly encouraged to apply
- Prior experience with children or tutoring is a plus (not required)
- Able to accommodate speed and accuracy ( Kumon Method and Process training will be provided )
Schedule
Part‑time hours on center days (example):
- Monday / Tuesday/ Wednesday/Friday : 2:00–7:00 PM
(Hrs will be flexible for High school and College Students)
Compensation
- $ 8 - $12
- Pay and hours may be adjusted up to 30–35 hours per week for adults with prior tutoring experience
Work Location
- In person at Kumon of Waxhaw – New Town
