Cashier

• This position is eligible for a temporary $750 Sign-on Bonus, paid out in three increments throughout the first 6 months of employment, based on the number of hours worked.

Core Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a Cashier is to ensure customer satisfaction by promptly and accurately checking out each customer at the check stand, while being accountable for every payment/refund transaction.

• Checkout Operations: Accurately and quickly scan, weigh, or ring up customers' purchases using the computer terminal register and scanner. Collect payments, return exact change, and account for all coupons (e.g., Manufacturer, WIC), vouchers, and refund/void transactions.

• Customer Service & Assistance: Promptly, courteously, and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet the needs of all customers. Study and explain weekly ads, specials, and store promotions; replace, retrieve, or price-check items for customers as needed.

• Register & Department Maintenance: Assist Courtesy Clerks with bagging groceries using reusable, paper, or plastic bags. Count and balance till drawers after each shift. Refill checkout supplies, maintain cleanliness at checkouts and accountability rooms, and assist other departments when necessary.

• Communication Support: Answer and forward incoming telephone calls, and use the PA system to request price checks, transfer calls, or promote store items.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Environment: Continuously perform duties indoors in an air-conditioned building where it may be dirty, dusty, and noisy with a high volume of customers and co-workers. Seldom work around odors from various products and perfumes.

• Physical Effort: Continuously stand, reach, handle, and use fine finger dexterity when ringing up purchases and handling currency. Frequently push, pull, lift, and carry up to 40 lbs when assisting customers with groceries. Occasionally climb stairways to retrieve/store cash tills or walk across the store to retrieve/replace items. Seldom bend, crouch, or clean. Corrected vision required to identify products and verify coupons.

• Equipment & Safety Gear: Continuously wear a wrist support brace when performing job duties. Continuously operate scanners, conveyor belts, computer terminals, till drawers, and cash registers. Frequently handle grocery bags, scissors, tape dispensers, telephones, and PA systems. Occasionally use adding machines and shopping carts. Seldom use ladders, pricing guns, dustpans, or brooms.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

• Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age to ring up liquor sales.

• Skills & Knowledge: Strong mathematical skills for collecting payment and returning accurate change. Ability to multitask, communicate effectively in writing and speech, and work under minimal or no supervision. Knowledge of store promotions, product codes, and locations.

• Education & Experience: No prior education or experience required.

• Work Habits: Friendly, patient, detail-oriented, honest, and able to work calmly and accurately in high-volume, fast-paced situations with constant interruptions.

• Availability: Generally available for work 7 days a week and holidays between 5:45 am and 11:30 pm.
