Accounting Manager - Construction (Alpharetta, Georgia)
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting within a construction environment, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strong internal controls. This role manages the accounting process, supports project accounting functions, and partners closely with project managers and leadership to drive financial accuracy and efficiency across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll coordination, job cost accounting, and general ledger
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Review and ensure accuracy of job cost reports, WIP schedules, percent-complete reporting, and project margin analysis
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and construction-specific accounting standards
- Coordinate with Project Managers to track costs, budgets, change orders, and billings
- Oversee billing processes including AIA billing, progress billings, retainage, and lien waivers
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reports
- Assist with annual audits, tax filings, and lender reporting
- Maintain and improve accounting processes, systems, and internal controls
- Partner with the executive leadership team on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting (POC), including job costing, WIP, and revenue recognition
- Experience with construction or ERP systems such as Sage, Procore, CMiC, Jonas, or similar
- Advanced Excel skills and QuickBooks
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership abilities
- Ability to work cross-functionally with project teams and leadership
