SummaryThe Staff Accountant is responsible for processing and maintaining financial data for project costs, vendor and subcontractor invoices, and union payroll including fringe benefits, ensuring accurate job costing, timely payments, and compliance with union, legal, state, and grant requirements. ResponsibilitiesPrepare, process, and reconcile union payroll, including hourly wages, overtime, and job-specific labor allocationsCalculate, track, and remit union fringe benefits in accordance with collective bargaining agreementsEnsure accurate reporting and timely submission of certified payroll reportsMaintain compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, union agreements, and prevailing wage requirementsManage payroll-related legal and state paperwork, including audits and record retentionAccurately code and enter vendor and subcontractor invoices and job-related costsProcess accounts payable and resolve invoice discrepanciesMaintain accurate job cost records and update purchase ordersPrepare and process customer invoicesTrack receivables, payments, and assist with collections as neededAssist with billing, documentation, and financial reporting to ensure complianceMaintain organized files for payroll, invoices, purchase orders, and financial recordsCollaborate with project managers, HR, vendors, unions, and internal departments to resolve issues and ensure accuracy QualificationsRequired:Two years of accounting or payroll experienceStrong understanding of payroll regulations, prevailing wage requirements, and basic accounting principlesProven ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced construction environmentStrong communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience engaging effectively with owners, engineers, vendors, and internal teamsPreferred:Associate degree or equivalent coursework in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldExperience processing union payroll and fringe benefits (strongly preferred)Experience with construction accounting systems and certified payroll reportingFamiliarity with union contracts and collective bargaining agreementsCompany DescriptionK&L was founded in 1958 and is a GC/Design-Build/CM that serves a 100-mile radius of Highland, IL including the St. Louis area and southern Illinois. Our projects include healthcare/medical, office buildings, industrial/warehousing, schools and churches, historic renovations, and water treatment/wastewater treatment plants.
