Treasurer

Korn Ferry
Medford, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 8/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/26/2026

Purpose of the Position

Our client is seeking a Treasurer who will be more than a technical owner of treasury execution. This leader will serve as a strategic partner to the CFO and executive leadership team, helping the client actively manage its balance sheet, strengthen investment decision-making, and translate treasury performance into tangible value for members.

The role has evolved significantly over the past six years. What began as a function handled directly by the CFO has become a dedicated treasury department with meaningful responsibility for investment portfolio management, liquidity, ALM, ALCO, profitability analysis, broker relationships, and decisions involving the purchase or sale of interest-earning assets. The client is now looking for a Treasurer who can build on that progress while bringing fresh perspective, judgment, humility, and strategic curiosity.

Reporting to the CFO, the Treasurer will manage the client’s treasury function and play an integral role in the overall management of the balance sheet. The successful candidate will oversee investment portfolio strategy, liquidity management, ALM, risk management, ALCO support, profitability analysis, and treasury-related financial modeling. The role requires the ability to evaluate complex investment products, use Bloomberg and other analytical tools, manage broker relationships, and provide clear recommendations to ALCO, the Finance Committee, and executive leadership.

  • Lead the treasury function, including investment portfolio strategy, liquidity management, ALM, risk oversight, profitability analysis, and market-informed balance-sheet recommendations.
  • Evaluate complex investment opportunities at both the individual security level and portfolio level, including analysis of pricing, structure, risk, yield, broker incentives, liquidity considerations, and strategic fit.
  • Serve as a principal liaison with investment brokers and advisors; cultivate broker relationships that improve market intelligence, pricing discipline, execution quality, and investment optionality.
  • Report to and advise ALCO, the Finance Committee, CFO, and executive leadership on portfolio performance, liquidity, interest-rate risk, credit risk, and other treasury-related matters.
  • Partner with the CFO and broader management team to assess the likely financial impact of new products, services, loan strategies, balance-sheet actions, and market scenarios.
  • Develop projections and scenario analyses independently or with external partners; translate technical outcomes into clear, practical recommendations for leadership decision-making.
  • Advance the client’s active balance-sheet management strategy, including evaluating opportunities to rebalance earning assets, sell or purchase loans or investments, and improve overall balance-sheet resilience.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the treasury analyst team; foster analytical depth, judgment, accountability, and collaboration within the function.
  • Ensure treasury activities are consistent with the client’s risk appetite, regulatory expectations, internal policies, and member-focused philosophy.

The Candidate

Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • Treasury, investment portfolio, ALM, liquidity, balance-sheet management, or closely related finance experience within a credit union, bank, ALM advisory firm, investment advisory firm, broker/dealer, or other relevant financial-services environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex investment products and make portfolio recommendations that balance yield, liquidity, credit quality, interest-rate risk, and broader balance-sheet objectives.
  • Experience working with investment brokers, advisors, or financial markets counterparties; direct sell-side or broker-side investment experience is highly valued when paired with strong analytical judgment.
  • Strong working knowledge of ALCO, asset/liability modeling, liquidity planning, interest-rate risk, profitability analysis, and financial forecasting.
  • Comfort using Bloomberg and advanced Excel; ability to work with treasury, accounting, financial modeling, and core financial-services systems.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical analysis to executives, committees, and cross-functional partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field required; advanced degree, CFA, CTP, CPA, or similar credential is desirable but not required.

Leadership Profile

The strongest candidate will combine technical fluency with sound judgment and a collaborative operating style. The client is not looking for someone who simply preserves the status quo, nor someone who pushes ideas without listening. The ideal Treasurer will be confident enough to challenge conventional thinking, yet humble enough to earn trust in a culture that values partnership, transparency, and doing the right thing for members.

  • Strategic partner: helps the CFO and leadership team see new possibilities and assess them with balanced risk/reward thinking.
  • Commercially astute: understands broker incentives, investment pricing, market structure, and the economics behind treasury decisions.
  • Member-focused: views treasury performance as a way to strengthen the institution and reduce pressure on member economics.
  • Innovative but prudent: energized by thoughtful, creative balance-sheet strategies while maintaining appropriate discipline and governance.
  • Humble and collaborative: brings expertise without arrogance; builds credibility through substance, listening, and follow-through.
  • Teacher and talent developer: invests in analysts, shares knowledge, and helps build lasting capability within the treasury function.

Culture Fit

The client’s culture is relationship-driven, people-focused, and deeply connected to community. The Treasurer must be a strong cultural fit: practical, thoughtful, grounded, and motivated by impact. Candidates who are rigidly traditional, dismissive of non-standard but prudent investment approaches, or uncomfortable with collaborative challenge are

unlikely to thrive.

  • Excited by the opportunity to help a credit union think differently about balance-sheet management.
  • Comfortable engaging with a CFO who wants a strategic partner who will push thinking appropriately.
  • Able to operate with autonomy while staying aligned to governance, mission, and risk appetite.
  • Highly credible with technical stakeholders, yet accessible to non-technical leaders
