Job Title: Material Handler (2nd Shift)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
Compensation: $21.00 per hour

Job Summary:
The Material Handler is responsible for performing a variety of warehouse activities, including shipping, receiving, kitting, and supporting inventory and quality assurance functions. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to exercise independent judgment and knowledge within the department while maintaining a general understanding of related departmental operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform material handling activities, including using hand trucks, forklifts, and other methods to move crates, packages, and materials throughout the warehouse.
- Stack and store materials in designated areas within the warehouse.
- Perform tasks necessary for the shipping of finished products in an automated shipping and receiving environment as described in the Shipping SOP.
- Weigh and address parcels or crates of materials, attach postage or prepare bills of lading, and keep records of goods shipped.
- Process orders using FedEx and UPS websites, and occasionally coordinate shipments with LTL carriers.
- Determine the best possible shipping method to meet customer demand.
- Interact with upper and senior management to resolve shipping and receiving issues.
- Process shipping transactions in company-assigned databases.
- Review and assign shipping freight costs.
- Query and review department reports daily in company-assigned databases.
- Review and analyze shipping returns and may occasionally approve item cost credits to customers.
- Pack parts, finished products, or other materials in cardboard or wooden boxes, cartons, or other containers for shipment or storage.
- Fold, stack, or neatly arrange articles in containers using packing materials as necessary to prevent breakage or damage.
- Pick and process work order requests by various departments in company-assigned databases.
- Keep records of shortages, exceptions, and damages, reporting those conditions to the Sr. Warehouse Supervisor.
- Deliver packages to stock inventory and various department personnel.
- Perform inventory control functions such as issue-outs, receiving, and transfer of quantities in the company-assigned database.
- Maintain warehouse in an organized, safe, and clean working condition.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies and notify the Distribution Supervisor when inventory is low.
- May drive to vendor locations to drop off or pick up packages.
- Seek continuous improvement in work processes and techniques.
- Maintain good communication both inside and outside of the company.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by company management.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or GED, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum three years of experience in a warehouse environment.
- Data entry knowledge.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs.
- Requires prolonged standing or sitting, frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Ability to successfully respond to multiple work pressures.
- Ability to communicate verbally to individuals and groups.
- Ability to communicate verbally in person and by phone.
- Ability to listen for understanding and assist in problem solving.
- Occasional travel to vendor locations may be required; candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if travel is needed.
Job Type: Temp-to-hire
Pay: $21.00 per hour
