Estimator II
Otsego, MN | $75,000–$95,000 | Direct Hire
Konik is partnering with an established civil construction contractor seeking an Estimator II to develop accurate, competitive bids for earthwork and site development projects. This role will support projects involving mass grading, excavation, haul operations, site preparation, and related civil construction work.
The Estimator II will manage assigned bids from initial plan review through final submission, partnering closely with project managers, superintendents, operations leaders, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the preconstruction process. This is a strong opportunity for an estimator with solid civil construction knowledge who enjoys taking ownership of bids, evaluating risk, and helping set projects up for successful execution in the field.
Responsibilities
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope, requirements, risks, and estimating strategy
- Perform site visits prior to bidding to evaluate jobsite conditions, access, logistics, haul routes, and other project-specific considerations
- Complete accurate earthwork takeoffs using AGTEK and perform hand takeoffs for materials, quantities, and related scope items
- Calculate quantities including square yards, linear feet, cubic yards, unit counts, material movement, and other project needs
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor, supplier, and material pricing while considering DBE/MBE requirements when applicable
- Build comprehensive estimates in HeavyBid/HCSS by developing activities, crews, equipment needs, production rates, and pricing assumptions
- Prepare bid proposals and submit completed bids to owners, general contractors, or public agencies within required deadlines
- Track bid results and follow up with general contractors, owners, or bid runners on publicly awarded projects
- Support project handoff after award by partnering with project managers and operations teams on scope, assumptions, risks, and execution planning
- Manage multiple bids and priorities with accuracy, organization, and limited oversight
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent estimating experience will also be considered
- 3–5 years of estimating experience within earthwork, excavation, site development, civil construction, or related work
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, production rates, material movement, jobsite logistics, and project risk evaluation
- Experience with construction bidding and/or project management software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project managers, superintendents, operations leaders, vendors, subcontractors, clients, and management
- Ability to review complex information, define problems, evaluate data, document assumptions, and make sound estimating recommendations
- Working knowledge of AGTEK and HCSS/HeavyBid is highly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record
- Ability to travel occasionally to jobsites and client meetings, including limited overnight travel
