Seasonal Lifeguard

Description

We are looking for a certified lifeguard to join our team at The Vineyards Apartments located at Butler Hill and I-55.  The pool hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (closed on Mondays and during times of inclement weather) from now through September 7th.  We offer somewhat of a flexible schedule, ideally with shifts ranging from 4 to 8 hours each day, staffing two lifeguards or a lifeguard and a pool attendant to be present during the pool hours each day.  This 

Core responsibilities are:

• Opening and closing the pool each day according to scheduled hours
• Regularly treat the pool with the correct amount of chemicals
• Remains at the pool and closely monitors activities, identifying any safety issues; insures pool rules and guidelines are being followed
• Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions
• Closely monitoring weather reports to make sure guests remain safe
• Maintain a clean pool environment:
• Folds and stores chairs and umbrellas at sundown
• Picks up rubbish in the pool area
• May participates in draining, cleaning, and refilling the pool and changing pool filters.
• Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to pool chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

• Must be lifeguard certified or become certified (Midwest Pool Mgmt or YMCA offer certification)
• General first aid a plus
• One to three years of experience in a lifeguard position and/or pool maintenance is a plus

Language Skills  

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and other employees of the organization.

The employee is occasionally required to swim; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally be able to lift and/or move a person while in the water with the use of a rescue tube or flotation device/ring. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
