Position Summary
The Compliance Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring regulatory compliance across all credit union operations. This position partners with cross-functional teams to interpret and implement financial regulations, mitigate compliance risk, and uphold governance standards. You'll help drive policy development, regulatory change management, and audit readiness while supporting a strong culture of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Change Management
- Monitor and interpret federal and state banking laws (NCUA, CFPB, BSA/AML, etc.)
- Update policies, procedures, and disclosures to maintain regulatory compliance
- Manage compliance calendars and ensure timely regulatory filings and reporting
- Maintain accurate compliance documentation and audit trails
Risk Assessment & Audit Support
- Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory examinations
- Conduct risk assessments to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions
- Partner with leadership to strengthen internal controls and compliance frameworks
Training & Compliance Program Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on compliance-related topics
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs for employees
- Collaborate with departments to embed compliance into daily workflows and operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
- 2-4 years of compliance experience in a financial institution or credit union
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (NCUA, CFPB, BSA/AML, OFAC preferred)
- Willingness to obtain the Credit Union Compliance Officer (CUCO) certification
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate clearly
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and regulatory adherence
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skill
