The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Superintendent in Birmingham, Alabama for our client, a growing construction organization. This opportunity is designed for an experienced sheet metal or HVAC construction professional who can lead field operations, coordinate crews and subcontractors, and keep HVAC and sheet metal installations moving safely and efficiently.
The position pays $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience, plus a $500 monthly car allowance. Candidates may bring established Superintendent experience or step into the opportunity after developing strong field leadership experience as a Sheet Metal Foreman or Journeyman.
What You'll Do
- Supervise sheet metal crews and subcontractors on active construction projects.
- Coordinate daily manpower, materials, equipment, field activities, and installation schedules.
- Oversee HVAC ductwork and sheet metal installation from layout through completion.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and project schedules.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, General Contractors, subcontractors, and other mechanical trades.
- Monitor jobsite safety, installation quality, and field productivity.
- Plan upcoming work and determine manpower and material requirements.
- Identify field issues and coordinate solutions that keep construction activities moving forward.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate field progress.
- Ensure sheet metal and HVAC work complies with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.
What You Bring
The successful Sheet Metal Superintendent will have five to seven years of sheet metal/HVAC construction experience as a Foreman or Journeyman, or one to three years of experience as a Sheet Metal Superintendent.
You should bring hands-on knowledge of HVAC ductwork and sheet metal installation along with experience working on commercial, industrial, institutional, or other large-scale HVAC construction projects.
This role also requires the ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and shop drawings; coordinate multiple trades and project activities; and understand construction sequencing, scheduling, and jobsite safety. Strong crew leadership, communication, organization, and field problem-solving skills are important for success.
A Journeyman license is not required.
