About the Role
As an Electric Motor Winder, you will be responsible for rewinding, repairing, testing, and rebuilding electric motors, generators, pumps, and other electro-mechanical equipment. You'll work alongside experienced technicians while utilizing industry-leading tools, equipment, and repair processes to deliver high-quality results for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Rewind and repair AC and DC motors, generators, wound rotors, alternators, and transformers
- Record winding data, measurements, and electrical characteristics accurately
- Perform disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of electric motors and rotating equipment
- Apply insulation systems, varnishing techniques, and Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) processes
- Operate winding machines, surge testers, core-loss testers, bake ovens, and related shop equipment
- Perform electrical and mechanical testing throughout the repair process
- Follow established safety procedures and quality standards
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced technicians when applicable
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two or more years of experience in motor winding, motor repair, industrial maintenance, rotating equipment repair, or related mechanical trades
- Experience with AC/DC motor repair preferred
- Prior exposure to winding practices is highly desirable but not required for candidates with strong motor repair experience
- Valid driver's license required
- CDL and DOT medical card are a plus
- Experience working in an EASA-accredited shop is preferred but not required
Desired Skills
- Understanding of electric motors, generators, pumps, and rotating equipment
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and repair documentation
- Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable using computerized work order and documentation systems
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and perform physical work throughout the day
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to work safely in an industrial shop environment
