Kiln Car Repair Technician
Knight Material Technologies is currently hiring a Kiln Car Repair Technician at our East Canton, OH location. The Kiln Car Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining kiln cars to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient production flow. This role supports on-time manufacturing performance by performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and major rebuilds of kiln car components while upholding Knight Material Technologies’ How We Work Principles of Safety and Compliance, Customer Focus, Respect, Integrity, Problem Solving, and Teamwork.
Job Title: Kiln Car Repair Technician
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Non-Exempt Position
Location: East Canton, OH
Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Diagnostics: Conducts daily inspections to identify wear, damage, and operational issues involving frames, wheels, axles, seals, and related components.
- Repairs & Fabrication: Resets, fabricates, and replaces refractory bricks and other high-heat materials as needed.
- Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Performs major rebuilds, preventative maintenance, and maintains car-to-car seals to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Cleaning & Housekeeping: Removes debris, sand, and other materials from car decks and blocks to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Inventory Management: Monitors and manages parts, refractories, and spare components to ensure adequate supply levels.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately completes maintenance logs, inspection records, and related documentation.
- Safety: Strictly follows all safety procedures and protocols in high-heat, industrial environments.
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Demonstrates personal accountability, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willing and able to work in an environment that can be hot, humid, dusty, and noisy.
- Willing and able to adhere to safe work practices, including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Mechanical aptitude
- Masonry experience
- Attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork.
- Forklift operation (often required).
- Ability and desire to learn
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Two (2) or more years of manufacturing experience
- Ability to read engineering drawings
Physical Requirements: (With or Without reasonable accommodation)
- Must be willing and able to squat, bend and lift to 50lbs
- Must be willing and able to stand and work up to a 10-hour day in a non-climate-controlled facility
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, off shift, and/or weekends when necessary
