Handy Man / Maintenance Helper |
SUMMARY A maintenance helper works alongside fully qualified maintenance technicians, electricians, operators and instrument technicians to learn the skills of the trade. As a maintenance helper, your responsibilities are to assist with a variety of duties, including installing equipment, maintaining mechanical systems, and repairing machines. You may also need to complete classroom or online training about HVAC structures, plumbing, and electrical and mechanical systems and components

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Perform schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skillset.
- Patrol and monitor work areas and examine tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules.
- Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
- Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
- Attending training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
- Communicating with Supervisors, & Peers – Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
- Getting Information – Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings – Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Making Decisions and Solving Problems – Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material – Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge – Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships – Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.
