KLR Executive Search Group is proud to partner with YMCA Southcoast in the search for its first Controller. This newly created senior finance role offers an accomplished accounting leader the opportunity to strengthen the Association’s financial infrastructure while supporting a mission-driven organization that impacts thousands of lives throughout the Southcoast region.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will lead the Association’s core accounting operations, including the close, GAAP financial reporting, annual audit, and development of the accounting team. The incoming Controller will help shape the role by improving processes, elevating reporting, and building greater efficiency across the finance function.
Key Focus Areas
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and related reporting.
- Prepare and analyze accurate financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses in accordance with GAAP.
- Own the annual audit process, including workpapers, supporting schedules, and coordination with external auditors.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Prepare required governmental reports and the YMCA of the USA annual financial submission.
- Partner with the CFO on budgeting and lead process improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Three to five years of experience managing and developing a team.
- Direct experience with annual audits and strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems.
- An approachable, collaborative, and influential leadership style.
- Nonprofit experience, CPA designation or CPA-track experience, and payroll exposure are preferred.
