At Klickitat Valley Health, our Emergency Department team provides compassionate, high-quality care to patients during some of life’s most urgent and critical moments. We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) to join our Emergency Services team and support the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in our rural Critical Access Hospital.
In this role, you will work closely with Registered Nurses and Providers to assist with emergency and trauma care, perform delegated clinical duties, support patient flow, and help maintain operational readiness within the department. The ED Tech plays an important role in creating a responsive, organized, and supportive care environment for patients of all ages while contributing to the overall success of the emergency care team.

General Summary:
The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) functions as a member of the Emergency Services team and supports the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care within the Emergency Department of a Critical Access Hospital. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Provider, the ED Tech performs delegated clinical duties, assists with emergency and trauma care, facilitates patient throughput, and supports the department's operational readiness.
This position requires strong critical thinking, effective communication, adaptability, and the ability to function in a fast-paced rural emergency care environment serving patients across the lifespan.
Casual positions are not eligible for benefits.
Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):
Safety Sensitive per WASB5123: Yes
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Washington State EMT certification required.
- Current National Registry EMT certification preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Able to perform delegated clinical procedures within the scope of hospital policy.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an EMT, ED Technician, CNA, Corpsman, or healthcare technician in an Emergency Department, EMS, urgent care, or acute care setting is preferred.
- Experience in a rural healthcare or Critical Access Hospital environment preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Assist licensed staff in providing direct patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and scope of practice.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain assessments, glucose testing, and other delegated patient care activities.
- Assist with patient transport, transfers, ambulation, positioning, and activities of daily living as appropriate.
- specimen collection, point-of-care testing, splinting, wound care assistance, EKG acquisition, and other technical skills as delegated and competency validated.
- Assist providers and nursing staff during emergency procedures, trauma resuscitations, cardiac events, and medical emergencies.
- Prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies for patient examinations and procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
- Assist providers in coordinating patient care, consults, and transfers to outlying hospitals for higher level of care
Department Operations
- Maintain cleanliness, stocking, and readiness of treatment rooms, crash carts, and clinical equipment.
- Ensure appropriate infection prevention and safety practices are followed.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining equipment functionality and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Support patient flow and throughput activities to promote efficient Emergency Department operations.
- Participate in shift huddles, department communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Accurately document care activities and observations in the electronic medical record as required.

- Collaborate effectively with nurses, providers, EMS personnel, ancillary departments, and community partners.

Working Conditions
- Fast-paced Emergency Department environment with exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and emergency situations.
- May require weekends, holidays, call, night shifts, and variable scheduling based on departmental needs.
