Job Summary:
We are looking for a visionary and hands-on Director of EdTech & Technology to lead KWL’s educational technology strategy and digital operations in the U.S. and Canada. This is a senior leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of innovation, education, and technology. We are looking for a builder who can define a forward-looking roadmap while also leading execution and delivering results.
The core focus of this role is to drive KWL’s EdTech product and platform strategy, ensure the reliability and scalability of our digital infrastructure, lead our EdTech & IT teams, and serve as a trusted technology partner to schools, districts, and educators.
Beyond internal operations, this role plays a key part in supporting KWL’s growth by enabling seamless implementation, strong customer relationships, and a high-quality post-sale experience.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in educational environments, such as school districts, K–12 institutions, or EdTech companies, and/or publishing, combined with a track record of managing technology teams and implementing scalable, impactful solutions. You will work in close collaboration with global product and technology teams across the Difusión Group, helping align priorities and ensuring that U.S. and Canadian market needs are clearly represented in group-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
EdTech Strategy & Innovation
· Define and drive KWL’s EdTech product and platform strategy in the U.S. market, aligned with global company direction.
· Identify emerging technologies, trends, and opportunities in the K–12 and higher education space to keep KWL ahead of the curve.
· Act as an internal innovation champion, inspiring the team to think creatively about how technology can enhance learning outcomes.
· Use data from platform usage, support tickets, and customer activity to identify trends, reduce recurring issues, and inform product, implementation, and customer experience improvements.
· Collaborate with content and editorial teams to integrate technology seamlessly into KWL’s educational offerings.
· Collaborate actively with editorial and technology teams in Spain, including platform Product Owners, to adapt and localize products for the U.S. market and provide structured feedback from the field.
· Work in close alignment with Grupo Difusión’s EdTech Director, contributing to shared technology strategy and ensuring coherence with group-wide initiatives.
IT Operations & Infrastructure
· Oversee all IT systems, infrastructure, and operations for the U.S. and Canada subsidiary, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
· Supervise integrations with LMS and SIS platforms such as Canvas, Clever, ClassLink, and Schoology, including SSO, rostering, and API-based connections.
· Ensure interoperability and visibility across educational platforms and internal systems, including CRM, customer support tools, and platform data, so teams have a clear understanding of customer activity, support issues, and implementation needs.
· Coordinate technical deployments and integrations with global teams and external vendors; manage vendor and partner relationships for software, hardware, and cloud services.
· Ensure compliance with U.S. data privacy regulations relevant to educational contexts, including FERPA and COPPA.
· Lead the implementation and adoption of internal productivity and collaboration tools.
Team Leadership
· Lead and continue developing KWL’s EdTech & IT team, a small, close-knit group with strong internal knowledge of our platforms, customers, and processes. Provide structure, mentorship, clear priorities, and accountability while helping the team move from reactive support to a more proactive model that can support KWL’s growth.
· Oversee daily operations of the EdTech and support functions, including ticketing workflows, issue resolution, and escalation processes.
· Define and implement efficient support and customer service processes to ensure a high-quality post-sale experience.
· Set clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations for direct reports, aligned with business and customer needs.
· Promote cross-functional collaboration with editorial, sales, and customer success teams to ensure alignment across the organization.
