The Landfill Maintenance Worker operates light to heavy trucks and equipment to perform a variety of tasks associated with landfill maintenance. Applicants must pass a DOT drug screen test to be eligible for employment.
Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operate D-8 Cat, D-7 Cat, 816 & 826 Compactors to move solid waste and materials
- Use graders and dozers for material movement and grading
- Operate backhoes to excavate and backfill trenches
- Use compactors to compact solid waste
- Operate snow removal equipment to maintain landfill access during winter conditions
- Drive transport trucks and load/unload equipment on low-boy trailers for transport to outlying landfills and transfer sites
- Direct vehicles to appropriate disposal areas based on load type
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly landfill site
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
To perform this role successfully, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
Education, Certification, & Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- One to three months related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A
- CPR Certification
- First Aid Certification
- Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence; communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide basic units of American money, weight, volume, and distance
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions and solve practical problems
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing
- Occasional use of hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, or smelling
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
