Position: Technical Designer (Freelance Consultant)

Kirrin Finch makes menswear-inspired apparel for women, trans, and non-binary folks.
We are based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and are looking for someone passionate about making clothing that lets people express themselves authentically.
Qualifications:
- Strong Fit Experience, ability to problem solve in live fittings and on the dress forms
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience and strong foundational knowledge in patternmaking
- Deep experience in suiting, tailored garments, and wovens
- Comfortable experience in knits and sweaters
- Strong computer skills (Necessary: Illustrator, Photoshop, Google Suite, comfortable with spreadsheets)
- Ability to review & adjust digital patterns with their own software preferred but not required.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical problem-solving with the ability to multitask.
- Working with a small team, but it is important to be self-directed and proactive
- We run an extensive size range, XS-5XL and 0-28, so experience in the plus size range is highly regarded
Responsibilities:
- Conduct fittings with fit models and advise on proper fit, photograph, and take notes
- Creating fit comments/correction tech packs and target spec docs based on fittings and feedback
- Developing grade rules and applying rules to create graded specs
- Spec’ing samples as they come in and maintaining target spec sheets in Google Drive
- Ability to determine if a sample garment should be fit or rejected if it is too far out of tolerance
- Spec’ing size runs and production to ensure vendors are following grade rules
- Develop tech packs
- Create size charts
- Provide support in developing technical illustration CADs
- Patternmaking and product development as needed
- Collaborate with the team to communicate with the factory and help facilitate the overall successful production of goods both in our domestic and international factories
- Taking ownership of the organization and implementation of the grade rules and spec sheets for the production team
General:
- Ability to maintain and prioritize an individual task list, and be an independent worker
- Handling daily administrative tasks
- Prepare packages to be shipped overseas and help manage/track the incoming packages
- Stay up to date on new products and company news by attending meetings and following outward communications
- Establish positive relationships within our small group of team members.
- Growth opportunities depending on experience and interest.
- Potential to travel overseas to our factories
Schedule:
- Part Time
- Anticipated hours flex depending on the flow of sampling
- anticipated ~40 hrs per month
- 5-15 hrs per week
Compensation:
- Range of $32-40/hr, depending on experience
Travel:
- Primarily an in-person role
- Requires travel to our Brooklyn-based office for spec’ing garments, fittings
- Ability to take some meetings remotely
