General Job Summary

Kirkwood Community College partners with many school districts in the seven-county service area to offer college credit curriculum within the walls of their high schools, as well as online and through regional and county center academies. Under limited supervision, the student and academic support coordinator will be responsible for supporting Benton and Iowa counties for all of their concurrent enrollment needs. This position will also be responsible for coordinating concurrent enrollment student events related to promotion, application, registration, orientation, and advising. This position works primarily with the following school districts in Benton and Iowa counties with their primary office located at the Iowa County Center in Williamsburg; Belle Plaine, Benton Community, Center Point-Urbana, English Valleys, HLV, Iowa Valley, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Williamsburg. This position will require collaboration with other departments and offices within the college as well as collaboration with external and community partners. An outgoing, student-focused personality with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of students as well as strong communication skills and an intrinsic motivation to strive for continual improvements is required. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional, but limited, evening hours.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with corresponding high school personnel including high school faculty, counselors and principals.
  • Assist students with their educational and career goals
  • Assist with student supervision and reporting student progress.
  • Conduct group and individual advising sessions with students.
  • Help students navigate and access accommodations.
  • Serve as liaison between faculty, students and school districts.
  • Coordinate events as they relate to promoting concurrent enrollment programs.
  • Coordinate specific concurrent enrollment activities and events related to application/registration, advising, orientation, etc.
  • Formulate and implement marketing and communication plans, including incorporating social media as applicable.
  • Assist with the creation of college and career planning materials to share during classroom and school visits.
  • Access Kirkwood programs and support services for college and career planning activities.
  • Assist with student advocacy.
  • Adhere to and assist high schools with the National Accreditation of Concurrent Enrollment Partnership guidelines.
  • Maintain contacts with area high schools, Workplace Learning Connection, Kirkwood Adult High School & Alternative High School program, and other appropriate business, agency, and community organizations.
  • Perform mileage-reimbursed travel to area high schools to foster connections with school personnel, instructors and students.
  • Assist with intra and inter-departmental improvement committees.
  • Attend advising-related conferences, transfer fairs, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Physical Activities With/Without Reasonable Accommodation

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, Marketing, Communications, or related field required.

Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations Required

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations

  • Minimum of three years in an educational setting are preferred.
