KIRKSVILLE R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT
POSITION TITLE: Career and Technical Education Counselor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Appropriate and valid Missouri DESE certification required.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- School Counseling experience preferred, but not required.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Valid Missouri driver's license.
- Working knowledge of Career and Technical Education
REPORTS TO: Director of the Kirksville Area Technical Center
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Ten (10) Month Contract
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Act as a liaison with sending school counselors and keep in communication with the counselors about student progress, changes or updates in programs, and student enrollment.
- Advise students regarding schedules, career goals, dual enrollment, scholarships, embedded credit, credit waiver, certifications, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certificates, On-Job-Training, articulation agreements, teacher concerns, student issues, and mental health. (Counseling will vary based on applicant’s certification)
- Coordinates enrollment of students to include but not limited to creating courses, scheduling, and creating master template. In addition, communicate with sending schools schedule, entrance applications and course selections.
- Coordinate with embedded credit teachers and monitor progress so students are on track.
- Work closely with post-secondary schools to create and maintain articulation agreements and coordinate all dual credit for KATC programs.
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of the needs/outcomes of each KATC program and be able to communicate to area school counselors the knowledge and skill requirements for each.
- Coordinate with sending schools to make sure IEP/504 accommodations are meet for students and specifically working with Kirksville High School on annual student 504 writing.
- Coordinate all recruiting activities such as presentation to students at Kirksville and 6 sending schools, participation in college/career fairs and hosting school and individual student visits.
- Develop recruitment materials to inform prospective student about program offerings, admissions, and procedures. Materials may include: course descriptions, recruitment presentations, program posters, interest surveys, and local labor market information.
- Work closely with school counselors to monitor student grades and attendance and intervene as necessary with all parties involved.
- This includes alternative programs to include Missouri Options and Kirksville Learning Center.
- Coordinate with Director on enrollment applications for block programs and assist with selection process.
- Assist in proctoring for KATC Technical Skills Attainment (TSA), Industry Recognized Credential (IRC), Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO), and local scholarship testing.
- General oversight of relevant local, state, and federal Career and Technical Education (CTE) reports to include Campus Safety Survey and Perkins Accountability Data.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in professional development activities in order to remain current on trends in the fields of career services and education.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, their parents, as well as business and industry concerning student performance in the career and technical education program.
- Coordinate with Kirksville High School Counselors in the annual writing process of 504’s.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
* Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas
and other assigned areas.
* Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally,
and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
including items such as shipped packages.
* Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling,
reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
* Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing,
compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
