Teach science in your own classroom, no traveling required. Kirk School seeks a part-time STEM teacher for hands-on, NGSS-aligned learning (Pre-School - 5th Grade).
Kirk School is seeking a dynamic and engaging part-time Science Teacher to lead our Pre-School through 5th Grade STEM program. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about hands-on, inquiry-based learning and building a strong foundation in scientific thinking aligned with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).
Our program blends interactive, project-based learning with the National Geographic textbook series, allowing students to explore science through both rich content and meaningful, real-world applications. Classes are held in our dedicated Science House, giving the teacher a consistent, well-equipped space to teach and eliminating the need to travel from classroom to classroom.
Position Details:
- Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week
- Salary range: $28,000–$36,000 annually, depending on experience
- Benefits eligible, including generously subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, NGSS-aligned science lessons for Pre-School through 5th Grade
- Utilize the National Geographic curriculum to support standards-based instruction
- Incorporate hands-on experiments, STEM activities, and project-based learning
- Maintain and organize the Science House as an active, student-centered lab environment
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular integration
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and scientific inquiry
Additional Opportunities:
- Lead afterschool STEM enrichment classes (e.g., engineering challenges, science clubs, creative lab workshops) for additional compensation.
Qualifications:
- California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching Credential (preferred)
- Experience teaching elementary and/or early childhood students
- Familiarity with NGSS standards and STEM instruction
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Passion for hands-on, experiential learning
- Bachelor’s degree required; background in science or education preferred
