Job Overview
Kīpuka Land Stewardship is seeking a motivated and dependable Field Technician to support conservation, restoration, and land stewardship projects across Maui County. This position involves hands-on fieldwork in diverse outdoor environments, supporting native ecosystem restoration, invasive species management, agricultural stewardship, and community-based land care efforts.
The ideal candidate is physically capable, safety-conscious, adaptable to changing field conditions, and passionate about caring for ʻāina.
Duties
- Conduct fieldwork related to native habitat restoration and land stewardship
- Assist with invasive species removal and control (manual and mechanical methods)
- Support outplanting, seed collection, nursery coordination, and plant maintenance
- Assist with constructing ungulate proof fencing
- Perform trail, fence, and infrastructure maintenance as needed
- Collect field data, complete daily field logs, and assist with monitoring efforts
- Safely operate hand tools and power tools (e.g., machetes, brush cutters, chainsaws)
- Follow all safety protocols and biosecurity measures
- Work collaboratively with crew members, supervisors, and community partners
- Assist with other conservation or land management tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in rugged outdoor environments
- Ability to hike long distances, carry equipment, and work in variable weather
- Willingness to learn and follow field protocols
- Reliable transportation to job sites
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in conservation, land management, agriculture, or landscaping
- Familiarity with native Hawaiian plants and invasive species
- Experience using hand tools and power tools in field settings
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Chainsaw, herbicide, or pesticide certifications
- Experience working in remote or rugged terrain
