Job Overview:

The school counselor provides personal, academic, and career counseling to scholars, teachers, parents, and others. The school counselor ensures guidance and counseling programs are implemented and that scholars and community members are supported.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide a variety of counseling supports including, but not limited to: responsive services, system support, individual, group, classroom guidance, social emotional, and career exploration
  • Lead the develop on community programs such as drug free schools programs and career activities
  • When necessary, refer students and parents to outside agencies and specialists
  • Promote an understanding and appreciation for diverse populations
  • Monitor and advises students and parents on progress toward promotion and/or graduation
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and parents to better understand and meet the needs of all scholars
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver counseling curriculum lessons
  • Assist scholars in the areas of academic development, career development, and citizenship development, as well as emotional and social development
  • Continually plan, evaluate, and revise the school counseling program
  • Individual student academic program planning
  • Interpret student records as it pertains to counseling/academic supports
  • Ensure records for counseling/academic support are maintained per state and federal law
  • Provide teachers with suggestions for effective classroom management
  • Advocate for students at student support meetings, study teams, and school attendance review boards
  • Support school leader in crisis management practices
  • Contact state and local authorities for child abuse/neglect issues

Additional Information:

Compensation

Compensation for this role is between $70,000 - $85,000 The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, and certifications.

We offer a competitive salary that depends on prior experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • 8 days of Paid Time Off, in addition to identified holidays and regular school breaks including Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Mid-Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Break.

Location & Work Conditions

This position requires candidates to be based in Atlanta and regularly be in schools and able to attend in person meetings and events. Additional in person time may be necessary based upon organizational needs.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

  • GaPSC Certification in School Counseling

  • Experience in Urban Education
