Position Summary

Contribute to the manufacturing process by producing efficient and quality welds for a variety of applications.

 

General Duties 

  • Responsible for operation of manual or semi-automatic welding and cutting equipment using the Gas Metal Arc Welding process (MIG) with Metal Cored and Solid wires, Plasma Arc Cutting, and Oxy Fuel Cutting.
  • Fabricate heavy steel weldments using fixtures and by manually locating parts to print specifications using a tape measure and other common fabrication tools.
  • Operate and effectively use common hand and power tools including but not limited to; pneumatic grinder, wrenches, hammers, pliers, etc.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure weldments with straightedges, tape measurers or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Complete first part and periodic part inspection to assure part is made to print.
  • Perform regular first echelon welding machine (or other machines assigned to welding) maintenance and reports probable machine malfunctions. 
  • Responsible for seeing that functional supplies and parts are on hand for the machine to assure productive operations.
  • Perform maintenance to welding area equipment and tools.  Responsible for tasks such as changing contact tips, troubleshooting wire feeding mechanisms, changing wire drums and spools, etc.
  • Welder must work with area supervisor to ensure the area runs efficiently so production needs can be met. Duties include, but are not limited to; alerting necessary persons if critical material shortages are seen, bringing attention to quality issues, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
  • Maintain proper 5S, housekeeping and safety standards
  • Responsible for your safety and safety of others
  • Assist other departments when necessary with welding issues
  • Comply with company core values, policies, and legal guidelines 

 

Requirements

  • Must have prior welding experience; manufacturing environment preferred
  • Must be quality and safety-oriented
  • Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools including but not limited to; pneumatic grinder, wrenches, hammers, pliers, etc.
  • Must be comfortable operating common hoisting equipment including jib and overhead cranes
  • Ability to compute basic mathematics including fraction to decimal conversions
  • Accurate problem identification and solving skills are preferred
  • Must pass both the Written and Physical weld tests
  • Basic understanding of welding processes
  • Willing and able to learn blueprints and symbols
  • Ability to work with supervisors, leads and mentors

 

Working Conditions

Manufacturing Environment:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Wearing appropriate PPE and following safety procedures
  • May require lifting, pushing, pulling of objects. 
  • Varying temperatures, depending upon season and machining

Working Time:

  • Position may require overtime work as required
