Job Title: K–12 Music Teacher
Reports To: Building Principal / District Administration
Position Overview
The K–12 Music Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive music education program for students in grades K–12. The teacher will foster creativity, appreciation, and skill in music through classroom instruction, performances, and extracurricular opportunities. The position requires a dynamic educator who can inspire a love of music in students of all ages and ability levels.
Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging music lessons for grades K–12 aligned with state standards and district goals.

Teach general music, instrumental music, and/or vocal music, adapting instruction to age and skill levels.

Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and resources to meet diverse learning needs.

Performance & Program Development

Direct and organize school music groups such as choir, band, and/or orchestra.

Plan and lead student performances, concerts, and community events.

Encourage student participation in regional and state music festivals and competitions.

Classroom Environment & Management

Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and creativity.

Maintain high expectations for student behavior and achievement.

Ensure the proper care, use, and inventory of music equipment and instruments.

Collaboration & Communication

Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student success.

Communicate effectively with students and families about classroom expectations, performance opportunities, and progress.

Participate in school and district committees, professional learning communities, and staff development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field (Master’s preferred).

Valid state teaching certification/license for Music, K–12.

Demonstrated proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental music.

Experience directing ensembles (choir, band, or orchestra) preferred.

Strong classroom management and communication skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
Physical Requirements

Ability to demonstrate and model proper use of instruments and vocal techniques.

Ability to lift, move, and set up instruments and equipment as needed.

Ability to supervise and accompany students on trips, performances, and competitions.
