Job Summary
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, assist certificated special education staff in educational activities for students requiring speech therapy and/or assistive technology support; provide drill, practice and production of correct speech sounds and grammar; support implementation and use of assistive technology (AT) and augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) devices and systems; monitor corrected speech, language and functional communication of students; perform instructional services and clerical support activities; report progress of students; use sound judgment and initiative in working with students; and perform other related work as required. Perform other related duties, as assigned. Requirements / Qualifications
[Education and Experience:] Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant I: Equivalent to graduation from high school and any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge and abilities. Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant II: Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree, or completion of at least sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university. Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant III: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. [License, Certificate and Testing Requirements:] Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates for Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant I who do not possess an AA/AS degree, completion of at least sixty (60) semester units of college coursework, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university must successfully pass an approved Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test with a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Candidates meeting the educational requirements for Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant II or Instructional Assistant SPED Itinerant III are deemed to have satisfied the proficiency requirement and are not required to complete the Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test. May require possession of a valid California driver license and maintain insurability Requires the ability to travel to various assigned work locations throughout Kings County using reliable personal transportation and/or a fleet vehicle. Participate in random alcohol and controlled substances testing as delineated in Superintendent Policy 4112.42, 4212.42, 4312.42 and Administrative Regulation 4112.42, 4212.42 and 4312.42. **To schedule an appointment for the Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test, please contact the Kings County Office of Education at (559) 584-1441.**
