What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Project Manager – Commercial Millwork & Interiors position at Kings Commercial Interiors?
What We Are Seeking
Kings Commercial Interiors is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in architectural millwork to join our team.
This is a key position within our project management group. The Senior Project Manager will take primary responsibility for larger and more complex projects while also serving as an experienced resource for our other Project Managers.
We are looking for someone who has spent time in the architectural millwork industry, has seen different ways of managing projects, and can bring practical experience and sound judgment to our organization.
The right candidate will understand that successful project management is about more than maintaining a schedule. It requires knowing the scope, understanding the drawings, communicating clearly, protecting the financial health of the project, anticipating problems, and keeping the many moving pieces of a custom millwork project aligned.
About Kings Commercial Interiors
Kings Commercial Interiors specializes in custom architectural millwork and commercial interiors.
Our projects require close coordination between customers, general contractors, architects, designers, drafting, purchasing, production, vendors, and field installation.
Because our work is custom, every project brings different challenges. Our Project Managers play an important role in turning the contract documents into a successful finished installation.
We are looking for an experienced professional who understands that process and wants to play a meaningful role in how projects are managed at Kings.
The Role
The Senior Project Manager will personally manage commercial millwork projects generally valued at $500,000 and above, including projects with significant complexity, schedule demands, and coordination requirements.
In addition to managing assigned projects, this position will provide guidance and experienced perspective to the rest of the Project Management team.
This is not intended to be a purely administrative management position. You will remain actively involved in your own projects while helping improve consistency, decision-making, and project execution across the department.
Responsibilities
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for activities including:
- Managing architectural millwork projects from project turnover through final completion
- Reviewing contracts, drawings, specifications, estimates, and scope requirements
- Developing a clear understanding of project requirements before work moves into drafting and production
- Coordinating submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, approvals, revisions, and other project documentation
- Working closely with drafting, purchasing, production, vendors, and field installation
- Maintaining communication with General Contractors, architects, designers, owners, and other project stakeholders
- Monitoring project schedules and identifying potential delays or conflicts early
- Coordinating material requirements and long-lead items
- Reviewing field conditions and resolving conflicts between design documents and actual site conditions
- Managing changes in scope and ensuring change-order opportunities are properly identified and documented
- Monitoring project costs and helping protect expected project profitability
- Coordinating deliveries, installation schedules, and site readiness
- Participating in project meetings and site visits as required
- Managing punch-list items and project closeout
- Keeping company leadership informed of significant project risks, schedule concerns, customer issues, and financial exposure
Senior-Level Leadership
A major part of this position is bringing experienced architectural millwork knowledge into our Project Management team.
Our existing Project Managers have largely developed their careers within Kings. We are looking for someone who can add another perspective based on experience gained elsewhere in the industry.
The Senior Project Manager will be expected to:
- Serve as a resource when other Project Managers encounter difficult project situations
- Share proven project-management practices and lessons learned from previous experience
- Help identify project risks that less-experienced PMs may not immediately recognize
- Provide guidance on customer communication, documentation, scheduling, scope, and change management
- Help improve consistency in how larger and more complex projects are managed
- Encourage accountability without taking ownership away from the Project Manager responsible for the job
- Help strengthen the overall Project Management department as the company continues to grow
We are not looking for someone to simply tell other Project Managers how to do their jobs.
We are looking for someone whose experience makes the entire team better.
What We're Looking For
Direct architectural millwork experience is important for this position.
The ideal candidate will have:

- Strong understanding of custom architectural millwork fabrication and installation
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and related construction documents
- Experience coordinating drafting, production, procurement, vendors, and field installation
- Strong understanding of commercial construction schedules and jobsite coordination
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Understanding of project costs, budgets, and the financial impact of project decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to handle difficult conversations professionally and constructively

- The ability to prioritize multiple projects, deadlines, and competing demands
- A practical, solution-oriented approach to resolving project issues
