Summer Camp Coordinator – Job Description
Position Title: Summer Camp Coordinator
Reports To: Program Director / Center Director
Employment Type: Seasonal (Summer)
Position Summary
The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning, organization, and execution of the summer camp program. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for all campers while providing leadership and supervision to camp staff. The Coordinator plays a key role in curriculum implementation, activity planning, and maintaining compliance with staff-to-child ratios.
Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Implementation
- Develop and coordinate daily camp schedules and activities that are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with program goals
- Plan and organize weekly field trips, including logistics, transportation, and safety procedures
- Oversee the implementation of curriculum and ensure consistency across all camp groups
- Prepare materials and resources needed for daily and weekly activities
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Directly supervise camp counselors and support staff
- Provide guidance, coaching, and ongoing support to ensure high-quality programming
- Monitor staff performance and address concerns promptly and professionally
- Lead team meetings and communicate expectations clearly
Camper Supervision & Safety
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times
- Maintain compliance with required staff-to-child ratios
- Step into classrooms/groups as needed to actively work in ratio
- Address behavioral concerns using appropriate guidance techniques
Operations & Organization
- Maintain accurate attendance records and activity schedules
- Ensure all activities and trips meet safety and regulatory standards
- Communicate with families as needed regarding schedules, trips, and updates
- Coordinate set-up and clean-up of camp spaces
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in a childcare, camp, or youth program setting
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Pennsylvania Childcare Compliance Requirements
All candidates must meet the pre-service and ongoing requirements for childcare staff in the state of Pennsylvania, including but not limited to:
- Current Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Child Abuse Clearance (PA Department of Human Services)
- FBI Fingerprint-Based Federal Criminal History Check (if applicable)
- Completion of Mandated Reporter Training
- Completion of required Health Assessment
- Verification of education and experience as required by Pennsylvania childcare regulations
- Completion of annual professional development hours in accordance with state guidelines
All clearances and documentation must be current and maintained in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Ability to stand, walk, and engage with children for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25–40 pounds as needed

- Seasonal summer position with hours based on camp operations
- Availability for field trips and extended activity days as needed
