What are the responsibilities and job description for the 911 Dispatcher position at King William County?
The Emergency Communications Officer will work in a high-stress, fast paced environment answering 911 emergency calls, non-emergency call, and handling in person requests for service. Communications Officers will receive calls for service and dispatch information simultaneously to emergency first responders.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES- Receives, classifies, processes and dispatches emergency calls;
- Receives, records and forwards non-emergency calls for service;
- Receives law enforcement, medical, fire, EMS and related requests;
- Prepares and maintains computerized and other records and files;
- Operates radios, telephone switchboard, alarm systems, recording devices and computer terminals;
- Prepares and maintains data, reports and records;
- Maintains working knowledge of operating procedures of agencies served by 911 center;
- Utilizes computer data base for mapping, data collection and computer aided dispatch;
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a through background investigation, which includes, but is not limited to driving and criminal history records check, credit history check, and inquiry of character and reputation. Knowledge of and capability to use required equipment, including, but not limited to headsets for communication via phone and radio, use of multiple computers and screens. Clear speaking voice. Typing speed of 20 words per minute minimum. Ability to read and interpret maps and mapping systems. Must be able to complete required training within selected time.
