A Parts Specialist handles inventory, sources and sells vehicle components, and provides expert advice to technicians and customers, requiring strong mechanical/electrical knowledge, computer skills, and excellent customer service to ensure the right parts are available to minimize repair downtime and maintain efficient operations for auto shops or retail stores.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Management:
Ordering, receiving, stocking, and organizing parts; conducting cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Data & Records:
Using inventory software, maintaining accurate records for invoices, repair orders, and purchase information.
- Technical Expertise:
Researching and identifying correct parts for repairs, sometimes advising on substitutions or modifications.
- Ordering & Procurement: Sourcing parts from various suppliers, negotiating pricing, placing orders, and tracking back-ordered items.
- Documentation & Administration: Processing invoices, managing purchase orders (POs), handling warranty claims and returns, and maintaining orderly records of all transactions.
- Knowledge: Familiarity of diesel motors and gas motors
- Heavy Equipment Maintenance (fleet services)
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Knowledge: Broad automotive mechanical/electrical knowledge; familiarity with parts catalogs and systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with inventory software, POS systems, computers, and the internet.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, and customer service skills; professional appearance.
- Physical: Ability to lift heavy items; valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position works in a port/terminal setting, with ample outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely stands for prolonged periods of time and performs other physical activities as needed. Position requires work outdoors in hot/humid, cold, and other inclement weather conditions depending on the time of year. This role randomly uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.
