The Department of Elections is looking for a language translation professional to support the Korean language. This job posting will be used to fill a short term temporary position to support the Language Services Program. This individual must be able to read, write and understand at the language proficiency testing level used by the Department.
This position will translate and proof documents and web materials in Korean; conduct research, and provide administrative support to other election work groups as needed during elections. This position is expected to begin on June 15, 2026 and last approximately one month.

Work Location: The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of mandatory on-site work with some telecommuting work as needed. The work site for this position is the Elections Building, 919 SW Grady Way in Renton.
Work Schedule: This position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The workweek is typically 35 hours per week, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. As a Short-Term Temporary Employee, hours are not guaranteed and are determined based on work available, translation, and proofing needs. This position is expected to be able to work during sudden changes to schedule that may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays during designated election times. Overtime (including weekends or evenings) will be required during elections and other peak work periods. Overtime is paid after 40 hours are worked in the workweek.
Bilingual Pay Premium: This position is eligible for a bilingual pay premium of $2.00 per hour.
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
- Translate or proof election-related documents and web materials to Korean including but not limited to: voter registration information, letters and other correspondence to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) voters including, notice of elections, ballot titles and voters' pamphlet information, candidate statements, ballot measures, resolutions and related materials. There will be a heavy emphasis on proof reading during the duration of this assignment as most of the translation will be done by a third-party vendor.
- Review, edit and proofread all translated documents produced by translation service providers and others for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
- There will be various opportunities for data entry in the elections database and voter registration system VoteWA.
- Various administrative tasks as assigned.
- Fluency in English, including written and verbal communication and understanding of grammar.
- Must be able to read, write and understand the Korean Language at the department's language proficiency testing level.
- High level of language experience including interpreting, reading and writing into the specified language (Candidates will be tested to determine translation skills).
- Office and computer skills including the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook. (Candidates will be tested on office and computer skills.)
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to follow direction.
- Flexibility in the workplace and with weekly schedule.
Desired Qualification:
Professional experience translating technical, legal, educational and/or political documents from English into the Korean language.
Travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation services is required. A valid Washington State Driver's License is required to operate King County vehicles.
TESTING: Candidates who meet the qualifications will be invited in for testing. Testing will consist of the following: data entry, quality control, language speaking and listening, and performing written translations on a computer using a language keyboard.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties in this position are performed in an office setting and may be required to lift at least 25 lbs.
