What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Budget Director position at King County?
The King County Executive Office is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Deputy Budget Director team. The Deputy Budget Director leads a team of about 30 professionals who prepare the County's biennial budget, develop supplemental appropriations as needed, monitor the financial position of all County funds, and support program planning and other activities. The Budget team also works closely with the other teams in the Executive Office. The position requires strong leadership and communications skills, knowledge of budget processes and issues, a commitment to advancing Executive priorities, experience with management, and the ability to work with all types of people inside and outside of County government.

Manage staff to effectively deliver on the team’s project plan, including reprioritizing internal resources as needed.
Provide budgeting knowledge and experience to improve the County's budgets, financial plans, and outcomes.
Act as the Budget lead and spokesperson for multiple policy and fiscal areas as needed.
Be able to work effectively with the County Executive, Executive Office staff, directors and staff of County agencies, County Council staff, and external parties to develop budgets and related plans.
Demonstrate a commitment to equity and social justice, including leading efforts to further implement these priorities in the County's budget.
Have strong written and oral communication skills.
Have experience with business planning and organizational improvement.
Be able to work effectively with the Chief Budget Officer to coordinate responsibilities for various aspects of the County's budget and financial monitoring processes.
Work effectively with the other Executive Office team members to increase collaboration across the Office.

DESIRABLE, BUT NOT MANDATORY, CHARACTERISTICS:
A master's degree in public policy/administration, finance, economics, business, or a related field, or a bachelor's degree and longer work experience.
At least ten years of experience with budgeting and/or finance.
